Abstract
This paper is a study on Frege’s concept of thinking and classical anti-psychologism. Frege’s concept of thinking hasn't been noticed so far because of his assertion that the concept of thought has priority of the concept of thinking in logic and that thinking is an object of psychological research, the assertion and its force of Dummett who is the world’s leading authority on Frege, and the problem of the English translation to Frege’s terms. But Frege has taken a great interest in thinking as the founder of modern logic, and referred to it constantly in his writings. In chapter 1, I examine several reasons why Frege come to be known that he ignored the concept of thinking. In chapter 2, I suggest that unlike psychologists who considered all mental action as psychological thinking, Frege regarded an action that produces subjective ideas through physiological process primarily as psychological thinking in reference to psychologism which reigned at his epoch. In chapter 3, I show you errors that a logician committed when he considered logical thinking as psychological thinking in reference to Frege’s anti-psychologism. Finally, in chapter 4, I show that Frege distinguished objective thought from subjective thinking to get rid of psychologists’ misunderstanding of the nature of truth, and find out the correlation between his platonism and the characteristics of his concept of logical thinking.
