초록
This study investigates the demographic and labor force implications of the Arduous March in North Korea, a period of severe famine and economic crisis (1994-2000). Utilizing UN population estimates and ILO labor statistics, this study examines the impact of Arduous March on population decrease and changes in the labor force struc-ture in 5-year age groups by comparing 1990 and 2020. Findings reveal enduring ef-fects of Arduous March on the labor force structure: With an estimated labor force de-crease by 1.20 million attributed to an estimated population loss of 1.39 million by 2020, a significant decrease in the labor force among males aged 30 were evident.
