최근 미국과 FTA가 체결되고 중국과도 FTA가 추진되면서 서비스산업 개방진전이 우리나라 서비스산업 경쟁력에 어떤 영향을 미칠지에 대한 관심이 크게 고조되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 World Bank 자료를 활용하여 우리나라와 비슷한 경제구조 및 경제발전 정도를 갖는 OECD 국가만을 대상으로 서비스산업개방이 서비스산업의 생산성 및 서비스산업 비중에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로분석하였다. 2000년대 이후 국가별 패널자료를 활용하며 패널자료의 특성을 감안하여 다양한 실증분석을 시도하였다. 분석 결과 서비스산업의 개방이 높은국가일수록 서비스산업의 부가가치 상승률이 높은 것으로 분석되었다. 또한 서비스산업의 개방도는 서비스산업의 비중에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
Trade liberalization has played a great role in economic growth. Over the last decade, services sectors have become increasingly important in domestic growth. However, most of the existing studies look at the productivity increase through exports or imports in manufacturing sectors and few of them examine the role of trade liberalization in services. This study applies various empirical methods to investigate the effects of trade liberalization on the productivity of service industries. The results suggest that the trade openness has positive effects on increase in productivity of services sectors.
