유럽 중심의 사상적 흐름이 오래도록 문화와 문학을 주도해 오면서 아프리카 식민지 사회에 대한 문화와 문학 전반에 걸친 폄훼와 가치 말살 및 왜곡이 이루어져 왔다. 따라서 아프리카 구전 전통의 가치 회복은 곧 인류 본연의 근본적 가치 회복을 의미한다고 판단하여, 본 고는 인간 기원의 원형의 모습을 간직하고 있는 아프리카의 역사와 문학의 흔적인 구술 이야기의 가치를 밝히고, 그것이 어떠한 방식으로 현대에서 재해석, 재탄생 되었고 복원되었는가를 연구하였다. 이 연구를 위해 본고에서는 우선 문자와 ‘에크리튀르’의 유무가 한 문화의 가치를 결정할 수 없다는 것을 밝히고자 했으며, 구체적 예로 아프리카에 널리 퍼져 있는 구전 이야기인 거미신 ‘아난시’를 채택하였다. 아난시는 타문화간의 교류의 흔적과 영향, 그리고 현대적 재탄생의 예를 보여주었다. 교류의 흔적으로는 아프리카-이집트-레반트지역-크레타-그리스 문화간 영향에 주목하였으며, 현대 작품의 예로 동화 일러스트로 만들어진 제럴드 맥더멋의 작품을 제시하였다. 이외 구전 전통의 현대적 가치와 예술성을 복원하고 작가적 상상력과 세계관까지 확장한 예로 애니메이션 작가인 미셸 오슬로의 작품을 소개하였으며, 이를 통해 현대 작품이 아프리카 구전 이야기의 연속성, 지속성, 그리고 확장성과 팽창성 등의 특징을 되살리고 있음을 확인하였다.
Abstract
As European-centered ideological currents have led the culture and literature for a long time, denigration, value obliteration, and distortion of the entire culture and literature of the African colonial society have occurred. Therefore, judging that restoration of the value of the African oral tradition means restoration of the fundamental values of mankind. This paper reveals the value of the oral story, a trace of African history and literature that retains the original form of human origin, and what in this way, it was studied whether it was reinterpreted, reborn, and restored in modern times. This study attempted to reveal that the presence or absence of letters and 'écriture' cannot determine the value of a culture. ‘Anansi’ was chosen as an example for this study. ‘Anansi’ showed the traces and influences of cross-cultural exchanges and examples of modern rebirth. As traces of exchange, the influence between African - Egyptian - Levant -Crete - Greek cultures was noted, and the work of Gerald McDermott consisting of fairy tale illustrations was presented as an example of modern rebirth. Michel Ocelot‘s work was introduced as a work that restores the contemporary values and artistry of the African oral tradition and expands the artist’s imagination and worldview. The work confirmed that contemporary works are reviving characteristics, such as continuity, extensibility, and expansiveness of African oral traditions.
