Albor(1973), Niño Murcia(1995), Hurley(1993, 1995), Haboud(1994, 1998), Olbertz(2008) 등과 같은 다수의 선행연구들은 EHS의 BAP인 ‘dar + gerund’의 기원에 대한 연구에 중점을 두었지만 구체적인 형태-통사적 분석은 보여주지 못했다.
Abstract
This paper investigates the derivational condition of dative clitic of the Benefactive Applicative Periphrase(BAP) ‘dar + gerund’ in Ecuadorian Highland Spanish(EHS). A sentence like ‘Te doy cocinando los domingos’, which means ‘Te cocino los domingos’ in Standard Spanish, is used as a BAP of EHS in that dar combines only with the gerunds. A number of earlier studies such as Albor(1973), Niño Murcia(1995), Hurley(1993, 1995), Haboud(1994, 1998) and Olbertz(2008) tried to show the origin of this construction. However, they did not make a clear-enough analysis of the morpho-syntactic properties of the BAP of EHS. We argue that in BAP of EHS dar functions as a light verb that carries a morpho-syntactic information of verbal agreement features, whereas gerund carries the semantic content of the construction. We demonstrate that the morpho-syntactic properties of clitics of non-argumental indirect complement is closely related to the derivational configuration of High Applicatives, that is not applied to the derivation of ditransitive predicates. The crucial property of the BAP is the fact that the non-argumental dative clitic is introduced by a High Applicative head and the gerund is a result of spell-out of the lexical predicate root. This layer of functional structure predicts that the spell-out of light verb is conditioned by the derivational configuration of the High Applicatives that generate BAP.
