본 논문은 헨리 8세의 이혼과 재혼 그리고 영국의 종교개혁을 둘러싼 갈등이라는 하나의 역사적 사건을 다룬 셰익스피어의 『헨리 8세』와 칼데론 데 라 바르카의 『잉글랜드의 분열』을 분석하였다. 동일한 역사적 사건이 두 나라를 대표하는 거장들에 의해 어떻게 작품 속에 형상화하는지를 살펴보았으며, 그 차이를 통해 궁극적으로 작가들의 역사적ㆍ문학적 충돌 양상을 고찰하였다. 두 작품은 서로 다른 두 개의 시선을 견지하고 있다. 각각 영국과 스페인의 국가적ㆍ역사적ㆍ종교적ㆍ정치적인 정당성을 드러내기 때문이다.
Abstract
This article compares Henry VIII of Shakespeare and La cisma de Inglaterra de Calderón de la Barca. These plays share the same history, like the divorce and remarriage of Henry VIII, and the English Reformation. And this study analyzes carefully the historical and literary conflict of England and Spain of 17th century in these plays. Two works suggest two different points of view of the same history. Because each drama presents the national, historical, religious and political legitimacy of England and Spain.
