『돈키호테』에 나타나는 먹는 행위의 내재적 의미 분석

본 연구는 『돈키호테』에서 먹는 행위와 음식에 관한 묘사와 언급이 어떠한 의미를 내포하고 있는지를 밝혀내는 것을 목표로 한다. 먹는다는 것은 개인이 살아가기 위해 필수적인 행위일 뿐만 아니라 그 개인이 속한 사회의 관습도 나타낸다. 이를 통해서 우리는 음식이 한 개인과 맺고 있는 실존적인 의미뿐만 아니라 사회와의 관계의미까지도 규정할 수 있을 것이다. 지금까지 『돈키호테』와 음식에 관한 논문들이 많이 발표되었으나 대부분 산초를 중심으로 사회와 경제 측면에서 이루어진 것들이라, 본 논문에서처럼 음식과 개인, 음식과 사회라는 두 측면에서 음식이라는 변수가 작품 구조 속에서 작동하는 의미를 분석하는 연구는 우리가 처음 시도하는 것이다. 우리는 다음과 같은 부분으로 나누어 연구를 진행할 것이다. 첫째는 돈키호테가 편력의 길을 가면서 겪는 현실 속에서 먹는 식사가 작품 속에서 어떤 역할을 담당하게 되는지, 둘째는 배고픔이라는 현실의 욕구를 충족시켜주는 먹는 행위가 하층민과 상류층이라는 서로 다른 사회계층 안에서 갖는 의미가 각각 어떻게 다르게 나타나는지 분석할 것이다.
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the subtext Cervantes creates eating mannerisms and different types of dishes and food in his novel Don Quijote. From the first page, Cervantes describes the food that the main character eats every day, in detail. It is clear that the subtext created by the author can be explored from multiple viewpoints. This paper will focus on the subtext of the food eaten by characters and how it defines their social and economic status. Eating is not only an essential act for an individual to live, but it can also be said to represent the customs of the society to which the individual belongs. Therefore we will be able to define not only the human and existential meaning that food has with an individual, but also the meaning of its relationship with society. Although many papers on Don Quijote about food have been published so far, most of the research papers we have reviewed approach the meaning from the view of the renaissance and baroque Spanish cuisine. As in this paper, it is expected that a study that analyzes the meaning of the variable of food in the structure of the work in two aspects, food and personal, food and social relationships, we will try to create more value with a perception that can be applied to multiple studies of Don Quijote studies. For this, our research will be divided into the following parts. First, we will analyze the meaning of what kind of role the cuisine characters eat based on their economic status, which Don Quijote experiences as he goes along the path of bias. Second, we will analyze how the meaning of eating acts that satisfy the real need of hunger in different social classes, the lower class and the upper class, appears differently.
