유아의 성, 형제유무, 인기도에 따른 자녀발달기대수준의 차이

A study on the differences in child development expectation levels by sex, existence of siblings and popularity of the child

초록

본 연구는 현대사회 특성을 기반으로 유아의 성, 외동아와 형제아로 구분되는 형제유무, 인기아와 비인기아로 구분되는 또래 간 인기도에 따라 부모의 자녀발달기대수준에 차이가 있는지 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 경기도 어린이집 만 5세 유아 93명과 그들의 부모 93명을 대상으로 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 그 결과 유아 성별에 따른 부모의 자녀발달기대 수준에는 차이가 없었으나 유아 형제유무, 인기도에 따라서는 차이가 나타났다. 부모는 형제아에게 예의범절, 언어적 주장성, 독립성에 대해 더 높은 기대를 하고 있었으며 인기아에게는 예의범절, 순종, 정서적 성숙, 언어적 주장성, 학업능력, 독립성, 사회적 기능에 대해 더 높은 기대를 하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 유아교육에서 부모 역할의 중요성을 다시 한 번 확인할 수 있었으며 저출산으로 인한 가족 구조의 변화, 여성의 사회 진출로 인한 취업모의 증가 등 사회적인 변화 속에서도 유아 성장과 발달을 위해서는 부모-교사 간의 긴밀한 협력이 필요함을 알 수 있었다.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the difference in child development expectation levels by sex, age, and popularity of the child. In doing so, the study aims to help parents to have proper understanding on child development expectations and to provide basic resources for parental education in the child education field. For this purpose, data was collected and analyzed from 93 children under 5 years old and 93 parents at a child care center in Gyeonggi-do. As a result, while there were no differences in child development expectations by the sex of the child, there were differences determined by the existence of siblings and popularity. Parents had more expectations for male children in terms of politeness, language determination, and independence and had more expectations for popular children regarding politeness, obedience, emotional maturity, language determination, learning ability, independence, and social function. Based on such results, it is necessary to improve the understanding of children by parents and to provide education programs so that parents may have suitable development expectations for their children.
