초등단계 혁신학교 재학 경험이 학생의 학업성취도 향상에 미치는 영향

본 연구의 목적은 학업성취도 점수의 성장률에 초점을 두어 혁신학교의 성과를 평가하는 데 있다. 이를 위하여 경기교육종단연구의 초등학교 5학년∼중학교 2학년의 4개년도 종단 자료를 토대로 다집단 잠재성장모형을 적용하여 일반학교와 혁신학교의 학업성취도 및 성취 성장률을 비교하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 국어, 수학, 영어 세 교과에서 모두 초등학교 5학년 시기에는 혁신학교 학생들의 학업성취도가 일반학교에 비해 다소 낮았으나 학년이 높아짐에 따라 혁신학교 학생들의 점수가 더 높아지는 경향을 보였다. 둘째, 세 교과에서 공통적으로 초기 시점으로 설정한 초등학교 5학년 학업성취도 점수에 대하여 일반학교와 혁신학교 간 차이가 없었으나 학년이 높아지면서 성취도 점수의 변화율은 혁신학교에서 더 가파르게 나타났으며 이러한 성장률의 차이는 통계적으로 유의하였다. 셋째, 초등시기 혁신학교에 재학한 학생들이 장기적 학업성취도가 통계적으로 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 연구 결과를 토대로 혁신학교의 성과가 장기적 관점에서 인지적 성취의 성장을 이끄는 데 긍정적 역할을 한다고 할 수 있다. 마지막으로, 혁신학교에 대한 교육성과 검증 시 초기단계의 집단별 차이를 고려한 장기적 관점에서의 학업성취도 분석의 필요성을 제안하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of Hyuksin schools focusing on the growth rate of academic achievement scores. For this purpose, the Gyeonggi Education Panel Study data for grades 5 through 8 collected across 4 consequent years were analyzed to compare academic achievement and its growth between regular schools and Hyuksin schools. The results of this study are as follows. First, the achievement for the fifth graders of the Hyuksin schools was somewhat lower than that of the regular schools, however the achievement for the Hyuksin school students tended to be higher as they grew. Second, the growth rate was steeper for the Hyuksin school students and this result was statistically significant. Third, it was found that long-term academic achievement was significantly higher among students who attended Hyuksin elementary schools. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the experience with Hyuksin schools plays a positive role in driving the growth of the cognitive achievement from the long term viewpoint. Finally, we suggested follow-up research analyze the educational outcomes of the Hyuksin schools in the long-term perspective considering the group differences at the initial stage.
