본 연구는 초등학교 전문상담교사의 연구 동향을 분석하여 이들의 역할과 특성을 이해하고 향후 연구방향을 제시하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 2005년부터 2024년까지 국내 학술지에 게재된 논문 43편을 선정하여 기초연구, 연구방법, 연구주제를 분석하였으며, 비중이 높았던 두 가지 연구주제에 대한 내용분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연도별 논문 수는 초등학교 전문상담교사의 배치가 증가하는 2018년 이후 증가하는 추세를 보였다. 둘째, 연구방법 분석 결과, 질적연구가 가장 많았고, 양적연구, 문헌고찰, 혼합연구 순으로 나타났다. 셋째, 연구주제 분석 결과, ‘역할기대 및 인식연구’가 가장 많았으며, ‘개인특성 및 적응과정’, ‘윤리·법·제도’, 그리고 동일한 비율로 나타난 ‘상담성과’와 ‘검사 및 도구개발’ 순으로 나타났다. 넷째. 두 가지 주요 연구주제의 내용을 분석한 결과, ‘역할기대 및 인식연구’에서는 초등학교 전문상담교사의 역할로 자문 및 조정자의 역할과 지역자원 활용역량이 강조되었으며, ‘개인특성 및 적응과정’ 연구에서는 소진 경험과 초등학교 문화차이로 인한 어려움이 주요 내용으로 제시되었다. 이러한 분석 결과를 바탕으로 초등학교 전문상담교사의 역량 강화를 위한 구체적인 방안을 제시하였으며, 향후 연구 방향과 실질적인 지원방안을 제안하고자 하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine research trends related to professional counselors in Korean elementary schools in order to understand their roles and characteristics and to suggest directions for future research and practice. A total of 43 peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2005 and 2024 were analyzed with respect to foundational study information, research methodologies, and thematic focus. Among the identified themes, two were found to be most prominent and were further examined through content analysis. The findings indicated: (1) the number of studies increased notably after 2018, coinciding with the expanded placement of professional counselors in elementary schools; (2) qualitative methods were most frequently employed, followed by quantitative studies, literature reviews, and mixed-method approaches; (3) the most frequently addressed theme was “role expectations and perceptions,” followed by “individual characteristics and adaptation,” “ethics, law, and policy,” and, in equal measure, “counseling effectiveness” and “assessment and tool development”; and (4) studies on role expectations emphasized the consulting and coordinating roles of professional counselors and their capacity to utilize community resources, whereas studies on individual characteristics highlighted experiences of burnout and challenges stemming from cultural differences in elementary school settings. Based on these findings, the study offers recommendations for enhancing professional competencies and outlines future directions for research and systemic support.
