교차성 논의의 이론화 및 방법론적 쟁점: 사회학적 수용 및 유럽에서의 수용을 중심으로

초록

최근 ‘생물학적 여성’이라는 개념으로 인해 교차성 논의에 대한 격렬한 논쟁이 이루어졌다. 그것은 대체로 미국 흑인 페미니즘 및 탈식민지 페미 니즘과 관련된 ‘실천적’ 논의에 한정된 경향이 있다. 그러나 애초에 미국에 서 상당히 실용적인 방식으로 제기된 ‘교차성’ 논의가 한편으로는 미국의 여성 사회학자들을 중심으로 사회과학적 개념으로 수용된 바 있고, 다른 한편으로는 해러웨이 등의 근대과학 비판과 만나 유럽으로까지 확산, 수용 되었다. 교차성 개념이 이 과정에서 상당히 ‘이론화’하며 방법론적 쟁점들 을 불렀기에 이 논문에서는 그러한 과정들을 살펴본다.

Abstract

Recent discussions between ‘young feminists’ and so-called ‘young-young feminists’ in Korea have focused on the concept of ‘intersectionality,’ with the former group arguing that the latter group appears to be advocating the ‘trans-exclusionary radical feminist’ (TERF) stance of the 1970s~1980s, even though current discussions go beyond previous ones between white and black feminists in the USA. Since the concept was introduced to sociological inequality studies, discussions have intensified around theoretical and methodological issues and a ‘constructivist turn’ has influenced the theoretical discussions. This study therefore scrutinizes the process of development of the discussions on intersectionality, in order not just to understand the intersectionality approach per se more correctly, but rather to contextualize such discussions in terms of Korean contemporary society.
