이 논문은 돌봄노동자 글쓰기 워크숍의 경험을 중심으로 돌봄노동자의 일상에서 벌어지는 크고 작은 실천들과 이를 추동하고 이로부터 만들어지는 돌봄 관계를 드러내기 위한 도구로서의 일상글쓰기의 유용성에 주목한다. 현직 요양보호사들이 매일의 일상을 기록한 글을 지속적으로 온라인 플랫폼에 공유하는 형식으로 진행된 이 워크숍은 참여자들이 자신의 일의 의미를 이야기하고 돌봄에 대한 생각과 현장에서의 고충을 함께 나누며 노인돌봄의 문제를 이야기하는 임파워링의 장인 동시에, 연구자에게는 심층면접 등의 방법과는 다른 방식으로 돌봄현장을 이해할 수 있는 가능성을 제시했다. 돌봄노동자들이 쓴 글들은 평범한 일상을 만들어내는 것 자체가 돌봄노동이 이루어내는 중요한 성취임을 드러낸다. 이들이 쓴 글에 대한 분석을 통해 본 논문은 돌봄노동자의 마음씀과 돌봄의 기술, 돌봄노동자들이 수행하는 즉흥적이고 창의적인 실천을 통해 일상의 ‘평범함’이 가능해짐을 주장한다.
Abstract
Reflecting on the experiences of the writing workshop for paid caregivers for older adults, this article draws attention to diary writing as a useful method to explore the intricate dynamics of caring labor as “doing” and “being-with”. The workshop provided a platform for paid caregivers to engage in expressive writing, sharing their thoughts, challenges, and moments of significance in their caregiving roles. Through their writings, a deeper understanding of the complexities of caring labor emerged, emphasizing the importance of both the practical tasks performed and the emotional connection established with care recipients. The concept of “doing” represents the tangible actions and responsibilities involved in caregiving, while “being-with” encapsulates the relational and emotional dimensions that underpin meaningful care relationships. The reflections from the writing workshop shed light on the interplay between these elements and highlight the significance of recognizing and valuing both aspects in the caregiving profession. The findings contribute to a broader understanding of the multifaceted nature of caring labor and offer insights for improving support systems and policies in the field of caregiving.
