이 연구는 5,60대 여성들의 해외 자유여행에서 성별화된 경험을 살펴보면서 여성들의 여행동기와 태도, 의미 해석, 실천 등을 고찰하고 지원 방안을 탐색했다. 연구방법으로는 5,60대 여성 14명에게 심층면접을 실시했다. 연구참여자들은 여행을 좋아하고 경제적 능력이 있는 고학력 여성들이다. 연구결과, 연구참여자들은 가족여행에서 휴식을 취하지 못했고 주체적이지 못했다. 그럼에도, 돌봄에 지친 연구참여자들은 단절을 통해 휴식과 치유를 경험했고 자신의 삶을 성찰하면서 자아인식을 했다. 또한 연구참여자들은 여행에서 부딪히는 문제들을 해결함으로써 자신감을 갖게 되었다. 사회문화적 차원에서 돌봄과 임금노동으로 소진된 5,60대 여성들의 해외 자유여행에 관한 지지가 필요하다. 또한 지방자치단체는 이들의 요구에 기초한 자유여행 교육, 대체 돌봄서비스, 돌봄제공자의 치유여행 등을 제공할 수 있다. 아울러, 국제적 협력하에서 정부와 한국 대사관은 이들을 위한 정보를 제공하고 위기시에 상담과 구조를 지원해야 한다.
Abstract
This research examines the gendered experiences of women in their 50s and 60s during overseas free travel, focusing on their motivations, attitudes, interpretations of meaning, and travel activities. The objective of this study is to support women's travel for rest ad healing. In-depth interviews were conducted with fourteen highly educated women in this age group who possessed economic ability, IT skills, and English proficiency. The findings reveal that participants did not find sufficient rest during family-oriented trips where they accompanied their husbands. However, when given the opportunity to travel alone, they were able to find solace, reflect on their lives in unfamiliar environments, and experience self-recognition. Problem-solving during their journeys also contributed to heightened self-confidence. To address the needs of women in their 50s and 60s who face burnout from caregiving and work, it is crucial to support their overseas free travel at the societal level. Local governments can design free travel education programs, provide substitute care services when female caregivers in their 50s and 60s go travelling, and develop travel initiatives specifically tailored to the healing needs of this age group. Additionally, international cooperation between the Korean government, Korean Embassy, and relevant stakeholders can facilitate the provision of travel information, counseling services, and crisis rescue assistance to ensure a comprehensive support system.
