본고는 <여용국전>의 이본 네 종을 비교하고, 그 가운데 서사적 형상화가 가장 뛰어난 ‘최승범본’을 대상으로 구체적인 작품의 면모를 고찰하는것을 목적으로 한다. 한문본인 ‘연대본’은 서사 단락마다 소제목-세부 서사-史評의 순서로 서술되면서 史評을 통해 사물(인물)에 대한 관심과 평가의 욕망을 드러낸다. 한문본 ‘안정복본’과 국문본 ‘고대본’은 번역 관계라고 할 만큼 근친적이다. ‘최승범본’은 다른 이본들과의 차별성이 두드러진다. ‘최승범본’은 등장인물의 수가 다른 이본보다 3명 더 증가했으며, 文武 역할이 구분되고 있어 서사적으로 더욱 풍부해졌다. 작품 전반에서 미묘한 군신 갈등이 설정된 가운데, 인물과 사물의 관계가 직접적으로 긴밀하게 연결되고 있어 소설적 흥미가 두드러진다. ‘최승범본’은 소설적인 경사가 가장 두드러지는 이본이다. <여용국전>은 사람의 얼굴을 地形으로 형상화하고, 일상적인 현상과 사물을 의인화하여 참신하고 흥미로운 방식으로 우의적 내용을 표현한다. 본고는 ‘최승범본’을 통해 <여용국전>이 우언소설로서의 면모를 완전하게 갖추었음을 확인할 수 있었다.
Abstract
<Yeoyongguk-Jun(女容國傳)> is an allegory(寓言) about woman's face. This study intends to consider ‘Choiseungbum Version(최승범본)’ in concrete aspects because it has the richest narrative. ‘Yeoyongguk-Sa(女容國史)’<연대본> written in classical Chinese has interested in valuation of people. Both ‘Anjungbok Version’ <안정복본> written in classical Chinese and ‘Godae Version’<고대본> written in classical Korean has many similar paragraphs, so we can presume them to be related each other. ‘Choiseungbum Version(최승범본)’ stand out in relief. By adding 3 Characters and dividing their role into civil and military arts, the narrative of ‘Choiseungbum Version(최승범본)’ became more plentiful. There are signs of the conflict between sovereign and subject in overall story. Besides character and allegorical objects is so closely connected that old readers could imagine easily and laugh together. This means ‘Choiseungbum Version(최승범본)’ would highly incline toward novel. Through this study, we could ascertain The following. First, <Yeoyongguk-Jun(女容國傳)> were equipped with perfect novelness as an allegory. Second, dailiness of material and novelty of techniques might afford old readers pleasure.
