Abstract
Jeonjae(全齋) Lim Heon-hoe(任憲晦, 1811~1876) is a representative disciple of Hong Jik-pil(洪直弼, 1776~1852), who inherited the central academic lineage of Nakron(洛論) that originated from Kim Chang-hyeop(金昌協). Based on his understanding of Neo-Confucianism, he established his own academic position by inheriting Yulgok’s Liqi Theories(理氣論), Song Si-yeol’s righteousness spirit, and the Nakron theory of the early 19th century established by Hong Jik-pil and Oh Hui-sang(吳熙常, 1763~1833). Although he did not leave behind any writings related to Neo-Confucianism, he continued to engage in academic activities and produced notable disciples, including Jeon Woo(田愚, 1841~1922). In particular, Jeon Woo formed the ‘Gunjae School(艮齋學派)’ and marked the end of Joseon Neo-Confucianism based on Yulgok’s scholarship. In this paper, I first examine the successor aspect of the Neo-Confucian stance of Nakron in the early 19th century, which was established around Hong Jik-pil, and the tradition of family learning that formed the background of Lim Heon-hoe’s scholarship and thought, paying attention to his position in the history of thought. Based on this, I attempt to roughly identify the aspects of Lim Heon-hoe’s teaching activities and the writers he produced through them. In addition, I organized the Neo-Confucianism presented by Im Heon-hoe through a debate on the mind with Kim Pyeong-mook(金平默, 1819~1891) by focusing on the criticism of the theory of morality centered on reason at the time, and through this, I presented that the Neo-Confucianism presented by him emphasized the possibility of moral practice and one's own efforts to practice morality.
