Abstract

Stanislavsky, who planned constant artistic creation through psychological techniques, first established a technical and scientific methodology for actors to embody roles through emotional experiences. The actions of actors on stage are performed with clear motives and logic. This is the result of emotional reactions, so if actors can freely generate and experience emotions, they can create highly creative actions. Stanislavsky’s ‘system’, which considered the correlation and continuity between emotions and actions, can be seen as foreshadowing ‘embodied cognition theory’, a branch of cognitive science today. The principle of the ‘system’, which ‘interacts’ with others in a ‘given situation’ and ‘adapts’ to the reality that changes every moment, and creates actions based on logic and continuity, models the world structure of the embodied cognition theory. ‘System’ is a theory that approaches the properties of nature more closely based on the principles of human behavior. In this era where the concept of humans and art is rapidly changing due to brain science, the foresight of the ‘system’ can serve as a good guideline for predicting and correcting the validity and direction of the change.
