Abstract
This study examines the theoretical relations of three features that has appeared sequently in the world capitalism since 1970s; the breakdown of Bretton Woods regime and the conversion to dollar standard, the world economy imbalances, and the appearance of neoliberalism as a growth model. While the conversion of Bretton Woods regime to dollar standard could come to pass at the beginning under the existed dollar hegemony, this conversion of international currency system itself has strengthened US dollar hegemony through the astonishing augmentation of credit and the growth of financial market. This study argues that the so-called world economy imbalances have been prolonged by the strengthening of US dollar hegemony which was attributed to the augmentation and growth of international credit and financial market following the volatilization of dollar, and that the conversion to neoliberalism growth model based on the financial and asset market in the US economy could be justified by the very strengthening of dollar hegemony. In this respect, the world economy imbalances and the rising of neoliberalism in the US economy are not separate problems, but they are natural results from the achieving of US economic hegemony in the world capitalism which is based on the self-intensifying cohesion of US currency hegemony and financial hegemony. According to this, it could be said that US dollar hegemony itself is the most important foundation of the typical growth pattern in the US economy since 1980s that the fictitious policy(neoliberalism) has justified the fictitious growth(world economy imbalances) based on the fictitious value of dollar. From this aspect, this study regards the current crisis of the world capitalism not as the crisis of neoliberalism or finance but as the crisis of a certain capitalism regime that has existed under US dollar hegemony since the breakdown of Bretton Woods regime in 1971, that is to say, the regime since 1971 or post-Bretton Woods regime.
