'세계대공황'과 마르크스주의 위기론

저자는 『세계대공황』에서 이번 금융위기를 ‘세계대공황’으로 규정하고, 신자유주의 금융위기의 전개와 구조 그리고 그 결과에 대한 뛰어난 마르크스주의적 분석을제공한다. 그러나 다른 한편 저자는 자본주의의 주기적 공황과 구조위기를 차별하지 못하고 자본주의 공황의 원리론과 현대자본주의론을 매개하지 못함으로써 2007-2009년 위기의 중층적 성격을 파악하는 데 한계를 드러낸다. 이른바 세계대공황이주기적 공황인지 아니면 구조위기인지, 또 세계대공황의 원인이 무엇인지 이론적으로 일관되게 설명하지 못하는 것은 이런 한계 때문이다.
Abstract
Soo-Haeng Kim’s new book World’s Great Crash (2011) offers an outstanding Marxist explanation of the 2007/2009 financial crisis, especially of the devastating effect of financial innovation and derivatives in housing finance. However, it also shows some theoretical weakness in understanding the twofold character of this crisis as both cyclical and structural crisis, and basing the analysis of today’s crises on Marx’s crisis theory as well as the theory of contemporary capitalism. It is due to this weakness that the author cannot be theoretically consistent in explaining the so-called world’s great crashes and the causes of them.
