Abstract

The relation of imperialist/colony, which is the essence of the process of constitution of the international state-system, can be understood as the domination/subordination relation between the states which has been cons- tituted in process of the extension of the capital/labor relation, that is, the global totalization of the capitalist relation. The advent of the capitalist imperialism between the end of 19 century and the beginning of the 20 century was propelled by the class struggle and the shift of the power relation of class in the advanced capitalist countries. The imperialism was the strategy of capital and the state which had been driven into the defensive of class confrontation in process of class struggle of both ‘the economic form’ and ‘the political form’ for the great depression of that period. Capital export which was practiced as the exit for surplus capital generated under the pressure of the crises of the total class relation, was the essence of the imperialism as the transplantation/generation of the capitalist relation of production. The imperialist/colony relation was basically the domination/subordination relation between the states and was the process of generation of the capitalist relation in the colonies through this ‘non-economic compulsion,’ which was accompanied with colonial extra-exploi- tation and extra-profit. The unequal exchange between the imperialist/colony or the core/periphery was also realized through the commodity exchange relation based on the domination/subordination relation between the states. That is, the ‘exploitation’ of the colonies by the imperialist countries was realized usually through the capitalist commodity relation. Though imperialist/colony relation was transformed into the imperialist/neo-colony relation according to the shift of the power relation of class on the world scale, the domination/subordination relation between the states was preserved still. Accordingly, the imperialist/colony relation is no one-time and temporary relation, but obtains the qualitative determination as the domination/subordination relation between the states of the world system since the end of 19 century. In short, the imperialist/(neo-)colony relation as the domination/subordination relation between the states determines discriminatively the class relation in both the imperialist countries and the (neo-)colonies as exploitation relation and extra-exploitation in respect. As a result, the international state-system is not constituted of by homogeneous nation states as a moment, but by qualitatively discriminated imperialist/(neo-) colony nation states partitioned.
