초록

카렌 워렌은 억압받는 여성의 해방이 생태 위기의 극복과 긴밀한 연관이 있다고 주장한다. 여성과 자연에 대한 이중 지배 논리인 가부장제는 가치 위계적 사고, 가치 이원론, 지배의 논리로 구성된 억압적 개념틀이다. 세 가지 억압적 개념틀 중에서 핵심적인 요소는 지배의 논리이다. 지배의 논리는 실질적인 가치 체계로서 여성에 대한 남성의 지배, 자연에 대한 인간의 지배를 정당화하는 역할을 한다. 이와 같이 워렌의 에코페미니즘은 페미니즘이 환경 문제에 관심을 기울여야 할 이유와 생태주의가 여성의 문제에 관심을 기울여야 할 이유를 제공한다. 본 연구에서는 워렌의 에코페미니즘 이론의 내용과 특징을 알아보고, 그 성과를 검토한 후에, 이 이론에 대한 두 가지 한계점을 지적한다. 첫째, 개념적 측면에서 지배의 논리는 애매한 원리이다. 그러므로 이 애매한 원리를 포섭하고 명료화할 상위의 원리가 필요할 것이다. 둘째, 여성-자연 연결성은 필연적이라기보다 개연적이라고 보는 것이 여성의 해방과 생태 위기의 극복에 더 효과적일 것이다.

Abstract

Karen Warren criticizes the oppressive conceptual frameworks consist of hierarchical thinking, dualism, and the logic of domination. Among three oppressive conceptual frameworks, the key is the logic of domination. The logic of domination involves substantive value system. The logic of domination justifies the domination of women by men. Patriarchy is linked to naturalism, which justifies the domination of nature by human. Therefore, Karen Warren argues that the domination of women and the domination of nature must be resolved together. In this way, Warren theorizes ecofeminism. And she provides a moral reason for feminism to pay attention to environmental issues. But the logic of domination is ambiguous. It seems that a higher principle is needed to clarify this principle. The women-nature connection does not have necessity, but have probability. Having a perspective of probability in the women-nature connection will be more effective in solving problems about women and nature.
