가족돌봄청년의 돌봄 경험에 대한 성별 분석

초록

본 연구에서는 가족돌봄을 책임지고 있는 19~34세 청년 13명(여 9명, 남 4명)에 대한 개별심층면접과 초점집단면접조사 결과를 가족돌봄청년의 돌봄경험을 가족, 지역사회, 공공정책, 젠더 규범 등 다양한 맥락 속에서 살펴보고 성별로 비교 분석하였다. 질적연구방법인 근거이론 연구방법을 활용하여 추출된 주제어를 주제 묶음과 범주로 구성하고 성별로 제시하였으며, 주제들간의 관계를 정렬하고 조직화함으로써 가족돌봄청년의 돌봄 경험에 관한 패러다임 모형을 제시하였다. 분석 결과 돌봄 자원 부족과 사회경제적 안전망의 부실 속에서 청년에게 전가된 가족돌봄 부담이 과부화된 상태로 수행되고 있었다. 가족돌봄청년의 공통된 조건 및 동기와 더불어 돌봄의 동기 및 특성, 결과에서 젠더 차이가 나타났고, 돌봄의 성역할과 관련된 젠더 규범이 관철되고 있음을 확인하였다. 여성의 돌봄 동기에서는 성역할 기대가 지배적이었고, 돌봄 수행에서 가족 돌봄에 강하게 결속된 상태에서 현재의 돌봄뿐 아니라 미래의 진로나 전문적 정체성 등 사회적 차원으로 연결시키는 경향이 나타났다. 남성 참여자들은 주변과 연결되지 못한 고립된 돌봄 경험이 특성으로 나타났으며, 돌봄 경험이 주변화되고 개인화됨으로써 사회적 정체성으로 통합되지 못하였다. 가족돌봄에 대한 사회적 지원과 청년정책의 다양화, 가족돌봄 경력의 사회적 인정 등에 대한 당사자로서의 통찰이 제시되었다. 연구결과를 토대로 가족돌봄의 경력화를 통한 노동과 돌봄의 통합, 다양한 청년지원 정책과 성인지적 가족돌봄청년 지원, 가족돌봄청년 당사자 연대와 조직화를 제안하였다.

Abstract

In this study, individual in-depth interviews and focus group interviews were used with 13 young adults aged 19 to 34 (9 female, 4 male) who are responsible for family care in order to examine their care experiences and analyze them by gender. Adopting the grounded theory research method, which is a qualitative research method, extracted themes were organized into bundles, categorized, and presented by gender. As the results of the analysis, it was presented that the heavy burdens of family care passed on to young adults being carried out in an overloaded state with lack of care resources and a poor socioeconomic safety net. In addition to the common conditions and motivations of young adults caring for family, gender differences emerged in the motivations, characteristics, and results of care, and it was confirmed that gender norms related to gender roles in care are being implemented. Gender role expectations were dominant in women's motivation for care, and in the performance of care, while being strongly tied to family care, there was a tendency to connect it not only to the present but also to social dimensions such as future careers and professional identities. Male participants were characterized by isolated care experiences that failed to connect with other people, and were unable to integrate into their social identity in a marginalized and personalized care experiences. Insights from the participants were revealed regarding social support for family care, diversification of youth policies, and social recognition of family care experience. Several suggestions were made based on the research results: the integration of labor and care through career-orientation of family care, various support policies for young adults and gender-sensitive supports for young adults caring for family, and solidarity and organization of young adults caring for family.
