보다 향상된 멀티미디어 서비스를 지원 하기 위해 2000년 ITU에서는 IMT-2000이라는 이름으로 3세대 이동 통신 시스템의 복수 표준 규격을 확정하였다. IMT-2000시스템을 위한 여러 기술 표준 중에서 3GPP와 3GPP2라는 양대 국제 표준 기구에서 완성된 UMTS와 CDMA2000 시스템은 현재 한국, 일본, 유럽에서 본격적인 상용화 서비스를시행 또는 준비중에 있다. 또한 고속 패킷 데이터 전송, 무선 성능 향상, IP 네트워크 지원을 위한 구조 진화, 향상된서비스의 실현을 목표로 3G 시스템의 성능 개선 및 진화를 위한 표준화 작업이 계속 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는3GPP를 중심으로 진행되고 있는 무선 접속 망의 표준 기술 동향과 진화 방안을 살펴 봄으로써 향후 3G 시스템의 발전 방향을 전망해본다.
Abstract
The 3rd generation mobile systems were defined in by ITU in 2000 on the basis of several standards in order to support high quality multimedia service in higher data rate. Among those standards, UMTS and CDMA 2000 system, established by 3GPP and 3GPP2 respectively, are providing commercial service in European, American, and Japanese market, while Korea and other countries are preparing the launch of the service soon. In addition, the evolution process of those systems is going on for the purposes of radio link enhancement, IP network support, and realization of new enhanced service. In this paper, we introduce the trends and status of the 3GPP evolution standardization and forecast the main features of future evolution system.
