Abstract

This article surveys adn overviews digital convergence which is the main theme for the present volume of Telecommunications Review. In particular,this paper aims to correctly understand and precisely characterize digital convergence. For this purpose, we classify phenomena of digital convergence into three parts:convergence within telecommunications sector,convergence vetween telecommunications and broadcaastingsectors, and convergence among different industries such as telecommunications, banking, transportations, and so on. For each case of convergence we overview concepts and backgrounds, introduce extensive literature surveys, provide current tredds and future rospects, and try to draw policy implications.
