최근 정보통신 분야의 ‘융합’ 추세에 따라 유무선통합 혹은 FMC(Fixed-Mobile Convergence)에 대한 서비스 개발 및 기술 표준화 작업이 한창 진행 중이다. 본 논문에서는 ITU-T SG19에서 진행 중인 FMC 표준화 현황을 분석하고, 이를 토대로 향후 국내 관련 산업의 경쟁력 제고를 위한 대응 방안에 대하여 살펴보고자 한다. ITU-T에서는 현재 FMC 요구사항 도출을 완료하고, 구체적인 FMC 사례로써 ‘PSTN/ISDN 망과 이동통신망과의 연동’ 및 ‘IMS(IP Multimedia Subsystem) 기반 FMC 시나리오’ 등의 표준을 개발 중에 있다. 이에 국내에서도 기존에 구축된 초고속인터넷 유선망과 와이브로 및 3G 이동통신 무선망을 통합하는 기술 개발과 함께 IMS를 기반으로 하는 FMC 신규 서비스 발굴에도 주력할 필요가 있다. 나아가, 국내에서 개발된 FMC 기술의 국제표준화 추진을 통하여 관련 산업의 국제경쟁력 강화에도 노력을 기울여야 할 것이다.
Abstract
With the trend of ‘convergence’ of information communications and technologies, a variety of services and technologies for FMC(Fixed-Mobile Convergence) have been standardized. This paper investigates the FMC-related standardization works that have so far been in the ITU-T, and discusses our promising action plans on the FMC-related development and standardization to enhance the competitiveness of the associated domestic industries. In the ITU-T, the requirements for FMC have been identified, and now a set of specific scenarios for FMC are being studied such as ‘PSTN/ISDN interworking with mobile communication networks’ and ‘IMS-based FMC services’. From these observations, we could develop more specific technologies and services for FMC based on interworking between WiBro network and 3G mobile networks. In addition, it is also required to initiate the activities for international standardization on FMC technology and services, so as to enhance the international competitiveness of the domestic industry associated with the FMC markets and services.
