Abstract
Nowadays, Cross Layer technologies bring a hot issue since 4th generation (4G) communication systems have begun to be developed. Although they are expected to be based on the All-IP architecture, most research has focused on the cooperation between two underlying layers, i.e., MAC and PHY, and little work has been done for interworking with the network layer. Therefore, this paper deals with some core technologies based on the Cross Layer design for 4G networks. Firstly, we design a structure of an All-IP cellular network by using IP subnet, thereby decoupling layer 2 and layer 3 handoff. Secondly, we propose a new system that combines a multiple access technique with the cell structure. Lastly, we propose a QoS model of 3-CLQP (3-Cross Layer QoS policy) which considers IntServ and DiffServ of the network layer to interwork with MAC-PHY layers for resource management. These Cross Layer technologies shed light on solving the problem of designing QoS model which cannot be tackled properly by a single layer based approach.
