초등 여아들의 욕설 문화: 카스(카카오스토리)를 중심으로
A Qualitative Study on the Abusive Language Culture of a Group of Female Elementary Students: Focused on an SNS called CAS (Cacao-Story)

본 연구에서는 아이들의 중요한 생활공간이 되고 있는 사이버 공간인 ‘카스’를 통해 여아들의 욕설문화를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해, 초등학생 6학년 여학생 8명을 대상으로 참여 관찰 및 면담, 그리고 카스 내용을 분석하였다. 분석결과, 먼저 아이들에게 욕설은 일상생활언어로서, 카스는 생활공간으로서, 아이들의 일상생활을 지배하고 있었다. 다음으로, 카스는 ‘카스또래문화’라고 할 수 있는 하위또래문화를 형성하고 있었다. ‘카스’는 익명성을 가장한 아이들의 일상이 노출되는 ‘공개된 비밀의 방’으로서, ‘카따’가 생겨나는 또래들 간의 ‘지배 권력 관계가 형성되는 장’으로서, ‘젠더사회화의 장’으로서의 기능을 하며, 욕설은 이러한 기능을 가능하게 하는 힘의 역할을 하고 있었다.
Abstract
This study describes the peer culture of a group of female elementary students in an urban city, by analyzing the abusive words they used in an SNS called Cacao-Story which has become an important cyber space that is a part of the daily lives of many pre-adolescents in Korea. Participant observation and interviews were employed as the principal research methods. In the results it is clear that the abusive words used by the girls in CAS (Cacao-Story) appeared to dominate their daily lives within that cyber space. CAS forms a ‘CAS peer culture’, a sub-culture for the female students. CAS is an ‘open secret chamber’ for them which provides them with anonymity but still exposes the user’s life to the other users. Children can enjoy the anonymity of the experience but it is actually an open space which has produced clear victims within the power structure of that cyber space. It also functions as a device for gender socialization in which the abusive words played a crucial role.
