초록

이 연구는 ‘전문성’ 및 ‘전문화’를 중심으로 구성된 교직 개혁의 주요 담론을 분석한 것이다. 이 연구는 질적 연구 방법론의 하나인 해석학적 문헌 분석을 활용하여 교직 개혁을 이끌고 있는 주요 용어의 의미와 그 용어의 적용 사례를 주제에 따라 해석하여 분석하는 방법을 취했다. 이 연구는 먼저 ‘교직의 전문화’ 담론에 대한 종합적 이해를 위해 기능주의자와 갈등론자의 대립된 두 가지 시각을 동원하여 ‘전문직’, ‘전문성’, ‘(탈)전문화’와 같은 핵심 용어의 의미를 규명하고 그 용어의 적용 사례를 검토했다. 둘째, 이 연구는 주요 용어가 ‘교원의 전문성’, ‘교직의 전문화’, ‘교직의 탈전문화’에 어떻게 적용되는가를 두 가지 대립된 관점에서 분석하고 논의했다. 셋째, 이 연구는 기능주의 특성이론에서 주장하는 전문화의 기준이 한국의 교직 개혁안에 어떻게 반영되어 있는가를 논의했다. 결론에서는 교직의 전문화 논의에 필요한 비판적 인식의 정당성과 앞으로의 연구 및 실천에 도움이 될 수 있는 안을 제시했다.

Abstract

A Critical Approach to the Reform Discourse of the Professionalization of TeachingYeom, Minho (Chonnam National University) This study analyzes the major discourses of the reform of teaching focusing on the key words of ‘professionalism’ and ‘professionalization’. Through employing an interpretative text analysis, the meanings and applications of the key terms at the forefront of teaching reform are examined. First, the paper analyzes the key words of profession, professionalism, and (de)professionalization through the different perspectives of functionalism and conflict theory for a holistic understanding of the professionalization of teaching. Second, the paper discusses the ways in which key terms are applied to major themes, such as the professionalism of teachers and the (de)professionalization of teaching, and examines them from different perspectives. Third, efforts for the professionalization of teaching suggested in Korean education reform documents, and reflecting some criteria found in common with functionalist trait theory, are critically examined for their reality and limitations. Finally, the paper argues for the rationalization of a critical approach necessary to make the reform discourses reasonable for practitioners, researchers, and policy makers, and suggests ideas that can foster research and ameliorate practice in the future.
