초록
This paper is a theoretical reflection aiming to understandhow specific assets of intangible heritage are affectedby contemporary discourse. This approach focuses onunderstanding the protection, preservation and reenactmentof the intangible heritage found in Spanishrural landscapes. By an analysis of the global, nationaland regional laws, the paper addresses the need toapproach the intangible, understanding the peculiaritiesof places that shape the scenery. The places and ‘Assetsof Cultural Interest’ analysed in this paper are definedas geographic areas associated with a historic event, activity, or people, which exhibit cultural and aestheticvalues. Following this definition, these landscapes areexperiential cultural spaces, involving a complex set ofelements, fixed, semi-fixed and unfixed. The way in whichthese traditions are viewed and experienced by locals andforeigners plays a central role in many intangible heritagestudies, as does the way in which it reflects integrity, authenticity, attachment and a sense of identity, and howit anchors collective memory. It is the intention of this paperto emphasise the need to transfer the phenomenon ofintangible heritage from the realm of a lived experienceto the world of living places. In doing so some questionsarise: Is the intangible cultural heritage contained inrural landscapes authentic? Is it simply the materiality, the past act or the past cultural process, or is it the waythe intangible cultural heritage has been managed untiltoday? Are we applying critical considerations to inner andouter perceptions, appropriations and transmigrationswhen managing cultural heritage?
