Abstract
This paper analyzes the diplomatic strategy of middle ground state between the geopolitical fault line of the great powers, focusing on the case of Indonesia. Indonesia has historically experienced imperialist clashes between the Netherlands and Japan, the Cold War system, and the current conflict between the US and China geopolitical fault line. In each of these geopolitical fault line, as a geopolitical middle ground state, Indonesia adopted a strategy of transcendental diplomacy toward independence, specialized diplomacy of balanced and non-aligned lines, and complex multilateral diplomacy strategies. As a geopolitical middle ground state, Indonesia played an important role in establishing an independent Southeast Asian regional order and forming a multi-layered multilateral diplomatic order based on free and active diplomacy.
