다중의 등장과 민주주의 심화 : 2016~17년 촛불집회를 중심으로

이 연구는 세계화‧정보화 환경에서 새롭게 부각되는 시민권 확장에 주목하고 탈권위와 탈근대, 탈집중의 다중의 존재론적 특성을 파악하고자 하는 목적에서 작성되었다. 연구는 하트와 네그리의 ‘다중(multitude)’을 새로운 형태의 시민으로 규정하고 이를 한국의 2016~17년 촛불집회를 사례로 분석했다. 연구는 다중이 기존 학계에서 논의된 시민과는 다른 차원에서 발전한 이론적인 개념이고 이를 한국 사회에 접목하려는 시도로서 의미를 가진다. 그리고 2016~17년 박근혜 전 대통령 탄핵촛불집회 과정의 경우 한국에서 전통적인 사회운동의 계급운동이나 시민적 권리운동이 아닌 민주주의 정치적 불만과 경제적 불만, 삶, 정치에 대한 불만 등 복합적인 요인이 폭발한 다중운동으로 해석했다. 이를 통해 한국에서 1987년 이후 제도적인 민주주의가 발전했지만 민주주의 심화(democratic deepening) 또는 민주주의의 질(quality of democracy)에 대한 고민이 부족했다는 점이 나타났다.
Abstract
This study has focused on the emergence of multitude in the globalization and information age. This study defined and analyzed the multitude of Hardt and Negri as a new type of citizen. Multitude have different ontological characteristics in the globalization and information environment. This is defined as a multitude, and this study analyzed multitude's democracy. The case selected Korea's candlelight rally in 2016~17. As a result of the research, it has meaning as an attempt to incorporate the concept of citizen into Korean society. As a result of the analysis, in the process of candlelight rally in 2016~17, a complex factor appeared in Korea, which was not a traditional class movement or a civil movement but a democratic discontent. And multitude will be a major subject in the development and deepening of democracy.
