Abstract
(Background and Purpose) This study aims to explore how digital and artistic elements in offline spaces affect consumers’ brand experience and attitudes. As product-oriented offline stores are shifting into distinctive experiential venues, Gentle Monster House Dosan was selected as a case to analyze digital immersion, artistic elements (artification), and generational differences (MZ vs. non-MZ). The main objective is to examine how these factors interact with consumers’ brand experience (sense, feel, think, act, relate) and brand attitude (favorability, revisit intention). (Method) Guided by existing research on the influence of digital‧artistic experiences on consumer perceptions, this study developed a survey encompassing brand experience (sense, feel, think, act, relate), brand attitude (favorability, revisit intention), artification (artistic‧non-ordinary elements), and cognitive dissonance (feelings of strangeness‧conflict). A total of 113 valid responses were collected, balanced between MZ and non-MZ generations. The data were then analyzed using SPSS through correlation, regression (including moderation‧mediation), and generational comparisons (e.g., t-tests) to verify how artification (artistic “shock”), cognitive dissonance, and generational digital responsiveness affect brand experience and attitudes in a digitally immersive space. (Results) The findings indicate that digital experiences exert a significant positive impact on brand attitudes, and heightened artification (artistic‧non-ordinary elements) further amplifies favorability and revisit intentions, confirming a moderation effect (H1 supported). In contrast, cognitive dissonance (psychological conflict arising from unfamiliar experiences) did not mediate the relationship between digital experience and brand attitude (H2 rejected), suggesting that strangeness or conflict does not invariably lead to increased brand favorability. Regarding generational comparisons, MZ and non-MZ groups showed statistically significant differences in certain digital‧artistic elements and behavioral‧cognitive experiences, but less pronounced gaps in sensory‧emotional aspects, resulting in a partially supported outcome for H3. This implies that while generational differences exist in specific areas, they are not consistently observed across all experience factors. (Conclusion) This study empirically confirms that Gentle Monster House Dosan’s experiential space positively influences consumer favorability and revisit intentions, highlighting the importance of blending artistic and digital components to enhance brand experience. However, unfamiliar or conflicting psychological states (cognitive dissonance) do not necessarily translate into higher favorability, underscoring the need for a balanced approach to artistic originality and digital interaction when designing immersive brand spaces. Moreover, since generational differences are only partially manifested, brands should retain fundamental sensory‧emotional elements that appeal universally across age groups while selectively reinforcing digital‧artistic aspects favored by particular generations. Through such a strategy, brands can provide more tailored experiences to a broader consumer base, simultaneously elevating the quality of brand experience and strengthening consumer attitudes.
