Abstract
Although domestic violence in Korea was considered as a private matter in the past years, it has been well known to the public for last 20 years. To meed the demand of contemporary opinion, Protection laws against domestic violence in 1997 was first introduced and continuously revised. But still few victims are protected under Protection laws against domestic violence. According to Ministry of Gender Equality and Family survey at 2010 and 2013 year, Report level for domestic violence were 8.3% in 2010 year and 1.8% in 2013 year. The purpose of this study is to find the reasons that why some victims of spouse violence ask for help from legal and institutional systems and why other victims do not ask for help from it. Especially, this study applied to ecological theory to find out influential factors for spouse violence victim’s reactions. individual factors, family factors, contextual factors, and socioeconomic factors are included for independent variables and active reactions of spouse violence victim are considered as dependent variables. In order to explore research hypothesis, this study did survey. A survey asked to women who experienced physical spouse violence for last 5 years. A total of 222 questionnaires were used for multiple regression analysis and the result of study are following. First, seriousness of violence increased the active reactions of victims. In other words, victims are more likely to report or look for counseling centers, when they think violence as very serious. Second, violence accept level among socioeconomic factors prevents the active reaction of victim. In other words, generous attitudes for violence in South Korea disrupt victims’ requestion for outside help. Finally, this study could not find any influence in family factors and ecological factors.
