Abstract

This study aims at searching for the effective ways of teaching Korean to the advanced learners who are very familiar with its basic grammars and vocabulary. The advanced learners' interests stay beyond grammatically correct utterance. What they want is the ability to appreciate and criticize the Korean culture through various media such as films, literature, dramas, newspapers and magazines. In this paper, I tried to show the way how to teach novel for the advanced learner to help them acculturate into Korean society. Novel-applied Korean language teaching is meaningful in that the learners have a great opportunity to reach a better understanding of the language through the social, historical, and cultural factors involved in the works. This paper intends to suggest a teaching method of combining the novel and film. By understanding the differences between novel and film, learners can become familiar with Korean emotion, culture, and history. (Yonsei University)
