Abstract

After the ‘Enforcement Decree Of The Act On The Safeguarding And Promotion Of Intangible Cultural Heritage’ was enacted, the category system of intangible cultural properties of Korea was transformed into a new category with the same direction as the category system of the UNESCO Convention. and It is changing the perception of intangible heritage by designating a universal and complex cultural phenomenon of its own without ownership. However, from the operational aspect of the category, it does not include the stereoscopic and complex properties possessed by intangible heritage. In this study, the current status and problems of the application of the category of intangible cultural properties in Korea are examined in detail through examples of changes in domestic policies and cases of entry into the UNESCO Intangible Heritage List. Through this, we can see that the application of the category of intangible cultural properties differently according to the national and international catalogs, the emergence of the currently operated category system, and the actual operating conditions. In order to solve these problems, we proposed a flexible category management method that can capture complex cultural phenomena. Through these improvements, it is expected that UNESCO will be able to apply for registration of intangible cultural heritage easily and solve the contradiction of management system of intangible cultural property policy.
