사회과에서 다문화 교육은 다양성과 공존을 추구하는 시민을 양성하기 위함이다. 그런데 다문화교육이 지향하는 ‘다양성’이라 함은 그 개념이 매우 다의적이어서 ‘다양성’의 개념을 여러 가지로 유형화하고, 각 유형에 맞는 교수학습 전략을 고안해낼 필요가 있다. 다양성의 추구가 모든 다양성에 대한 무조건적인 관용을 의미하는 것은 아니므로, 용인할 수 없는 다양성의 한계가 설정되어야 한다. 이때 다양성의 한계는 기본적 인권, 평등, 헌법에서의 기본가치 등을 기준으로 설정할 수 있다. 다양성의 추구가 극단적인 가치 상대주의로 흐르지 않도록 다양성의 한계를 설정하는 교육과정의 개발이 다문화 교육과정에서 필요한 시점이다.
Abstract
The multicultural education in social studies education seek cultural diversity and coexistence. By the way, because of the vagueness of the concept of diversity, we have to analyze the concept of that by types and invent appropriate kinds of teaching strategy. The pursuit of diversity does not mean unconditional tolerance to all diversity. So, we have to set limits of diversity that we allow. The limits of diversity are originated from human rights, equality and fundamental values in constitutional law. The curriculum concerning the multicultural education in social studies must be studied continuously and additionally, not to move toward drastic relativism.
