이 연구의 목적은 초등 사회과 수업에 적용할 다문화 교육과정 및 수업안을 개발하는 것이다. 이를 위해 해외 다문화교육 정책 및 교육과정, 다문화 교육과정 관련 지침 및 모형, 국내외 다문화교육 연구에 대한 내용 분석을 바탕으로 다문화교육의 목표와 내용 영역을 도출하였다. 이 연구에서 초등 사회과 다문화교육의 목표로 제시한 다문화 시민성은 긍정적 정체성 형성, 다양성에 대한 인정과 존중 및 타문화에 대한 이해, 차별과 편견의 해소, 상호 공존하는 자세를 포함한다. 이와 관련하여 초등 사회과 다문화교육의 주요 내용 영역을 가족, 정체성, 문화․다양성․다원성, 차별과 편견 감소, 상호의존과 공존 영역을 구분하고, 영역별 목표 및 주요 내용을 제시하였다. 또한 다문화 교육과정 개발 내용에 기초하여 현장 교사들과의 협력적 실행 연구를 통해 3~4학년용 수업안 15차시, 5~6학년 수업안 15차시를 포함하여 총 30차시의 다문화교육 수업안을 개발하였다. 다문화 수업안 개발은 주로 다문화 매체를 활용한 교수 전략을 적용하였다. 이 연구 결과는 사회과 교육과정의 한계를 보완하고 사회과 교실 수업에서 다문화교육의 활성화에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop multicultural curriculum and lesson plans which can be implemented in elementary social studies instruction. At the first stage of this study, a content analysis was performed on multicultural education policies in the United States, Canada, England, Australia, multicultural curriculums and lesson plans, and several models of multicultural curriculum development. Based on a content analysis, multicultural citizenship was suggested as the primary goal of multicultural education. Multicultrual citizenship includes developing positive identity, recognition of and respect for cultural diversity and understanding diverse cultures in our society, prejudice and discrimination reduction, willingness to coexist peacefully. Five main content areas of multicultural curriculum are family, identity, culture․diversity․pluralism, prejudice and discrimination reduction, interdependence and co-existence. At the second stage of this study, collaborative action research was carried out to develope multicultural lesson plans. Multicultural media as like multicultural literature, drama, movie, news articles were mainly used when we designed multicultural lesson plans. We expect that the results of this study will improve the weak points in the existing national level social studies curriculum and make some contributions to revitalize multicultural education in elementary social studies classrooms.
