국제정치 이론을 통해 다문화주의를 설명하는 연구는 찾아보기 쉽지 않다. 이 글은 국제정치 이론인 현실주의와 자유주의를 통해 국제사회와 각국의 다문화화와 다문화주의를 연구한다는 점에서 기존 연구와 차별성을 찾을 수 있다. 이들 각각의 국제정치 이론에서 바라보면 다문화화와 다문화주의가 어떻게 이해되고 표현되는지 비교･설명하는 게 이 연구의 목적이다. 다문화주의를 국제정치 이론으로 설명하는 작업은 반드시 필요하다. 왜냐하면 다문화화와 다문화주의는 국내 현상이기도 하지만 국제 현상이기도 하기 때문이다. 이 글은 먼저 현실주의는 다문화화와 다문화주의를 추동하고 지원하는 다문화 친화적 이론이 아니라는 점을 이론적으로 규명한 다음, 자유주의는 각국의 다문화화가 야기하는 갈등, 분쟁, 테러 등에 관심을 두는 현실주의와 달리 다양한 문화, 인종, 언어, 종교 등이 평화적으로 공존하는 다문화화와 다문화주의를 찬성하고 추동하는 입장을 기본적으로 견지하는 이론이라는 점을 설명한다.
Abstract
It is not easy to find a study that explains multiculturalism through international politics theory. This article can be differentiated from previous studies in that it studies multiculturalism through the international politics theory, such as realism and liberalism. The purpose of this study is to compare and explain how multiculturalism is understood and explained by each of these international politics theories. This article first theoretically identifies that realism is not a multicultural-friendly theory that drives and supports multiculturalism, and then explains that liberalism is a theory that basically favors and drives multiculturalism in which various cultures, races, languages, and religions coexist peacefully, unlike realism that focuses on conflict, disputes, and terrorism caused by multiculturalism in each country.
