본 연구는 법원으로부터 보호처분을 받고 보호관찰소에 의뢰된 50명 폭력남편들을 대상으로 인지행동/여성주의 집단상담의 효과를 살펴보았다. 구체적으로, 상담개입이 행위자의 행동, 정서, 태도 변화에 영향을 미치고 있는지, 프로그램 종료 후 폭력 중단 비율은 어떠하며, 폭력을 멈춘 행위자들은 재범자들과 무엇이 다른지 확인해 보았다. 행위자와 피해자 보고를 기초로 사전․사후 점수 차이를 비교한 결과, 인지행동/여성주의 상담은 신체적 폭력과 심리적 폭력을 낮추는데 유의미한 효과가 있었다. 또한 이 모델은 아내폭력과 성역할 태도, 자존감에서도 유의미한 변화를 유도하고 있었다. 프로그램 종료 후 12개월 되는 시점의 범죄기록에 의하면, 집단에 참여한 남성들의 78%가 신체적 폭력을 멈춘 것으로 확인되었다. 폭력을 중단한 경우와 중단하지 않은 행위자들을 구별하는 요인은 결혼기간으로 조사되었다. 이 결과들을 기초로 상담의 효과를 높이기 위한 방안이 제시되었다.
Abstract
This study evaluated a cognitive-behavioral/feminist group program for court-referred male spouse abusers. More specifically, the present study examined the influence of counseling intervention on men's behavior, emotion, and attitudes. It also explored the recidivism rate during the 1-year follow-up period. In addition, factors associated with reporting of recidivism at one year after treatment were investigated. Results showed a significant decrease in the occurrence of physical and psychological violence from pre- to post-test. The female victims' reports of men's behavior also showed similar findings. Positive changes in attitudes toward woman battering and sex-role were also noted. In addition, the cognitive-behavioral/feminist approach was found to be effective in increasing men's self-esteem. However, anger level remained unchanged. Based on criminal records, 78% of the men no longer manifested physical violence during the one year post-treatment period. Only 'the length of relationship' was significantly related to recidivism, with those men who live shorter with their partner showing a greater recidivism rate. Implications for program development and research are discussed.
