본 연구는 150명의 가정폭력․성폭력 기관 여성종사자들을 대상으로 클라이언트 폭력의 실태 및 폭력과 관련된 종사자 및 기관 특성을 살펴보았다. 분석결과, 응답자들의 62.7%가 지난 1년간 클라이언트로부터 다양한 폭력을 경험한 것으로 나타났다. 유형별 발생빈도는 언어적 괴롭힘, 성적인 괴롭힘, 기물파손, 신체적 공격의 순이었다. 그리고 신체적 공격과 비신체적 공격(언어적 괴롭힘, 기물파손)간에는 관계가 있어서, 한 가지 유형의 폭력을 경험하는 사람은 다른 유형의 폭력도 함께 경험하는 경향이 있었다. 폭력의 결과, 부정적인 감정뿐 아니라, 심한 피로와 스트레스, 업무집중 곤란 등의 피해를 호소하였다. 폭력의 이유에 대해 응답자들은 클라이언트의 성격과 자신의 성별 특성을 많이 지적하였다. 응답자의 과반 수 이상이 관련 교육을 받지 않았으며, 기관의 폭력예방 수준도 미흡하였다. 폭력경험의 차이에서는 종사자의 인구사회학적 특성 중 단지 결혼 상태에서만 차이가 있었다. 종사자의 업무 및 기관관련 특성에서는 현 경력과 기관유형에서 차이가 났다. 즉, 경력이 상대적으로 많고, 성폭력 기관인 경우가 경력이 적고 가정폭력 기관인 경우에 비해 클라이언트로부터 폭력을 경험했다고 응답한 비율이 높았다. 관련 특성들이 폭력에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과, 학력이 낮고, 전공이 사회복지이며, 총 직원의 수가 많을수록 폭력을 더 많이 경험하였다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 제언에서는 현장(기관)과 종사자의 특성을 반영한 폭력예방책의 중요성과 실천적 대안을 제시하였다.
Abstract
Client violence toward social service workers is a serious issue for the profession and social service agencies dealing with domestic and sexual violence victims and offenders. However, few studies have explored the safety risks encountered by these practitioners in Korea. This study examined 150 workers in order to find out the experience of client-perpetrated violence in the domestic and sexual violence centers on a nationwide base. The result from the research were 1) 62.7% of the respondents had been victimized in violent acts of a physical or nonphysical nature, and the primary type of violence is verbal harrassment. The worker-victims of client violence experienced various psychological and physical pain. 2) based on demographic, work and agency-related variables of the workers, there are some differences in the experience of client violence between the workers' marital status, working experience in the present setting, and type of setting. 3) influencing factors of client violence are worker's education level, a major field of study, and the total number of practitioners working with. Based on these results, the research recommends that effective prevention strategies are needed in order to develop training/supervision programs and to create an organizational climate of reducing risks, and formal management system of violent acts.
