Abstract
This article tries to analyze how welfare regimes guarantee parental freedom of choice through work-family reconciliation policies. The Welfare regimes in this article are classified in 1) social democratic welfare regime(Sweden) which pursues gender equality and equality of income classes and makes dual earner family as a policy target, 2) conservative welfare regime(Germany) which makes male earner family as a policy target, 3) free market based liberal welfare regime(the United States) which has no family support program caused by marketizing strategies. Social democratic policies (like flexible parental leaves, daddy month and public day care facilities for the children under age 3) that promote gender equality make the women easy to choose a career instead of a house wife life even if they have children. Also social democratic policies guarantee more that fathers choose to spend time with their children at home than conservative and liberal welfare regime. For family oriented women the social democratic policies offer more freedom of the choice concerned with life styles and ways of child care than conservative and liberal welfare regime.
