베이비붐 세대의 은퇴 과정, 경제적․관계적 자원과 심리적 복지감: 남녀차이를 중심으로

초록

본 연구의 목적은 베이비붐 세대의 은퇴 과정이 심리적 복지감에 어떠한 영향을 미치며, 그 과정에서 경제적 ․ 관계적 자원이 매개역할을 하는가에 대해 남녀차이를 중심으로 검증하는 것이다. 이러한 연구목적을 위해, 1955년에서 1963년 사이에 출생한 베이비붐 세대 4075명을 분석하였다. 주요 분석결과는 다음과 같다. (1) 은퇴 과정의 단계 유형, 경제적 ․ 관계적 자원에서 남녀차이가 나타났다. 남성이 여성보다 주된 일자리 및 가교 일자리 종사 비율이 더 높다. 또한 남성이 여성보다 소득수준 및 결혼만족도는 높은 반면 자녀와의 관계만족도는 낮다. (2) 경제적 자원인 소득은 주된 일자리에서 퇴직한 남녀의 자기수용과 성숙감을 낮추는데 중요한 매개요인으로 작용하였다. (3) 은퇴 과정과 심리적 복지감의 관계를 관계적 자원이 매개하는 과정에서 남녀 간 뚜렷한 차이가 나타났다. 현재 일을 하고 있지 않은 남성은 일을 하고 있는 남성보다 결혼만족도 및 자녀관계만족도가 낮으며 이는 심리적 복지감을 저하시키는 반면, 완전히 은퇴한 여성의 경우 현재 일을 하고 있는 여성에 비해 결혼만족도가 높으며 이는 심리적 복지감을 향상시키는 결과로 나타났다. (4) 은퇴 과정이 심리적 복지감에 미치는 영향을 매개하는 자원의 성격이 심리적 복지감의 하위차원에 따라 상이하였다. 본 연구는 베이비붐 세대를 대상으로 그들의 은퇴과정과 심리적 복지감과의 인과관계에 대해 남녀차이를 중심으로 논리적인 검증을 시도하였고, 특히 은퇴 과정과 심리적 복지감의 관련성을 설명함에 있어 단순한 은퇴 여부가 아닌 은퇴 과정의 단계 유형과 베이비붐 세대가 가진 자원의 역할에 따라 심리적 복지감에 미치는 영향이 상이하다는 것을 밝혔다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

Abstract

This study examines how various aspects of retirement process is associated with psychological well-being, and tests whether economic and relational resources mediate the relationship between retirement process and psychological well-being focusing on gender differences of Korean baby boomers. The 4,075 respondents born between 1955 and 1963 were surveyed in face-to-face interviews using structured questionnaires. The major findings are as follows. First, there were significant gender differences in various aspects of retirement process, economic and relational resources. Second, the mediating effect of economic resources on the association between retirement process and psychological well-being of men and women was supported. Third, the relationship between various aspects of retirement process, relational resources, and psychological well-being differ according to the gender. Lastly, the roles of economic and relational resources in the effects of retirement process on psychological well-being differ depending upon the sub-dimension of psychological well-being. In conclusion, gender differences and gender similarities are found in the relationship between various aspects of retirement process, economic and relational resources, and psychological well-being. In particular, the findings of this study show the different pathways through which the retirement process is associated with psy-chological well-being for 4 different groups of baby boomers, the career job, the bridge job, non-employment, and full retirement.
