본 연구의 목은 주된 일자리에서 퇴직한 베이비붐 세 남성들의 가족생활 경험을 이해하고자 하는 것이며, 특히 남성 은퇴자가 가족생활에서 경험하는 만족과 불만족의 다양한 근거를 파악하는데 초점을 두었다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 본 연구에서는 서울시에 거주하는 남성 은퇴자 27명을 대상으로 개별인 심층면접을 통해 자료를 수집하고 질적 사례연구 방법으로 결과를 분석하였다. 연구결과는 개별 은퇴자들에 대한 분석을 수행한 뒤, 사례간 분석을 통해 가족생활에 불만족하는 은퇴자들에게 공통으로 나타나는 불만족 근거에 관한 주제, 만족하는 은퇴자의 만족 근거에 관한 주제들을 찾아 기술하고 해석하였다. 분석결과로 나타난 주제들은 다음과 같다. 먼저 가족생활 불만족의 근거로는 ‘아내는 낯설고 무서운 타인’, ‘자식이 원수: 독립하지 못한 자녀 걱정’, ‘나는 우울한 투명인간’, ‘혼자 밥 먹는 게 제일 힘들다’, ‘돈 백 만원이 아쉬운 상황’, ‘쓸 모 없는 산업폐기물’ 등이, 만족의 근거로는 ‘집안일에 재미 붙임’, ‘현실 받아들이려고 노력’, ‘배우자와 함께 하는 활동’, ‘가족과 거리 두기 위해 매일 외출’ 등이다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 베이비붐 세대 남성 은퇴자들의 가족생활을 지원하기 위한 정책적, 실천적 함의를 제시했다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to understand the family life experiences of babyboomer retired men, and explore reasons for satisfaction/dissatisfaction of family life. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with babyboomer retired men and analyzed using qualitative case study approach. Data collected from 27 retired men residing in Seoul. In the within-case analysis, the family life experience of each men was carefully examined and analyzed. The common themes appeared in all cases were described and integrated in the cross-case analysis. The themes generated from the within-case analysis include 'my wife is threatening stranger’ ‘permanent worries about children’ ‘I am depressed invisible human-being’ ‘eating alone is the most difficult daily task’ ‘even 1 million won is difficult amount to get on hand’ ‘I am useless industrial waste’ ‘being interested in domestic affairs’ ‘trying to face the reality’ ‘doing things together with my wife’ ‘going out everyday to keep the distance’. Based on the results of the study, policy and practice implications for retired men were suggested.
