Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the specific care patterns of young adult carers, and to analyze the effect of caregiving perception on depression, happiness, and life satisfaction. For this purpose, a survey was conducted on 108 young adult carers. Perceptions of care were analyzed by dividing them into positive and negative outcomes of caring (PANOC-YC20) and caregiver reaction assessment (CRA). The results of the analysis are as follows. First, as a result of analyzing the multidimensional assessment of caring activities checklist(MACA-YC18), the total score of care activities was 19.9 points, and emotional care, housework, and the scores of emotional care, housework, and financial management were high among the care domains. As for the impact of caregiving, positive outcomes were higher than negative outcomes. The response to care was highest in the order of economic impact and impact on daily life. Second, as a result of the group-by-group analysis, care activities were higher among young carers aged 25 years and older and those who were in intensive care, and the negative outcome was higher among female carers and those who were not in school. The response that caregiving was affected by daily life or health and lack of family support was higher among female carers, young adult carers in non-school status, sole care, and in intensive care. Third, as a result of analyzing the effect of the perception of care on depression, happiness, and satisfaction of life, it has been found that depression increases, life satisfaction, and happiness decrease when young adult carers feel that their daily life or health has been affected by caregiving, do not receive support from those around them, and perceive the consequences of care negatively. Based on these results, this study suggested support to reduce the intensity of care, establish programs to raise positive awareness of care and recognition system for care, and activate self-help groups to increase social support.
