본고의 목적은 한국어 학습자의 상호작용능력 향상을 위해 사용할 수 있는 의사소통 전략의 항목을 제안하는 데 있다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 본 연구는 상호작용능력 이론을 배경으로 상호작용능력의 정의와 그 하위 영역을 제시할 것이다. 상호작용능력은 구어 발화 상황에서 가장 잘 관찰할 수 있으며, 대화 맥락과 참여자에 따라 다르게 나타날 수 있는 능력이다. 본고에서는 상호작용을 활성화할 수 있는 의사소통 전략을 상호작용능력의 하위 영역인 ‘주제 전개’, ‘순서 교대’, ‘반응 발화’, ‘태도 및 몸짓 언어’를 기준으로 구분하였다. ‘주제 전개’를 위해 사용할 수 있는 전략은 ‘주제 탐색하기’, ‘주제 유지를 위해 관련 내용 질문하기’이며, ‘순서 교대’를 위해 사용할 수 있는 전략은 ‘균등한 대화 유지하기’로 보았다. 또한 ‘반응 발화’를 효과적으로 할 수 있는 의사소통 전략으로 ‘상대방의 발화 내용 보완 ․ 정리하기’, ‘경청하고 있다는 신호 보내기’로 제안하였는데, 이 중 ‘경청하고 있다는 신호 보내기’가 비언어적으로 나타나는 경우 ‘태도 및 몸짓 언어’에 속하는 전략으로 볼 수 있다. 이러한 구체적인 전략의 수립은 의사소통 전략을 교수 가능성을 높여줄 수 있을 뿐 아니라, 학습자들의 구어 발화 능력을 향상시키는 데 기여할 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to suggest communicative strategies for improving interactional competence. To this end, definition of interactional competence and its subcategories are presented, based on interactional competence theory. Then literature review on the communicative strategies is followed. In this study, communicative strategies are classified into two folds: problem-solving strategies and strategies that promotes communicative efficiency. The communicative strategies falls into problem-solving are categorized by the resources that causes the problems: identity resources, language resources, and interaction resources. When identity resources are not enough to interact with others, speakers uses strategy of ‘compare perspectives on situation, context, and participants’. When language resources are insufficient, ‘message abandonment/ reduction/ replacement’, ‘approximation/ word coinage’, ‘circumlocution’ are the strategies they use. To solve the problem caused by the shortage of interaction resources, the strategies such as ‘reconstruction of discourse format’, ‘comprehension check’, ‘direct appeal for turn-taking and boundaries of discourse’. For all problem, ‘asking for help’, ‘time gaining’, ‘guessing’, and ‘feigning understanding’ strategies could be used. Communicative strategies which promotes communicative efficiency could be classified by the subcategories of interactional competence: ‘topic development’, ‘turn-taking’, ‘backchannel’, and ‘attitude and gesture’. Five strategies are suggested in this category: ‘navigating topics’, ‘ask related question to maintain current topic’, ‘equal turn taking’, ‘interpretative summary’, ‘appropriate response’. These practical lists of communicative strategies could contribute not only to the classroom teaching of communicative strategies, but to the actual improvement of oral production skills of Korean learners.
