『만보전서언해(萬寶全書諺解)』의 서지적 고찰과 그 언어적 특징

본 연구는 국어학적으로 검토된 바 없는 한글 필사본 자료인 『만보전서언해』를 서지학적․국어학적으로 검토하고 그 필사 연대를 추정하는 것을 목적으로 한다. ‘萬寶全書’라는 이름은 두 가지 의미를 갖고 있다. 첫째는 표제가 ‘萬寶全書’인 책을 가리키는 것이고, 둘째는 명말 청초 시기의 종합 백과사전 형식의 일용유서를 통틀어 지시하는 것이다. 『만보전서언해』는 명․청대의 <萬寶全書>를 저본으로 하고 있으나 일부 내용을 발췌하고 새롭게 구성하여 만들어진 필사 자료이다. 17책으로 되어 있는 『만보전서언해』는 다양한 지식과 풍부한 주석으로 백과사전으로서의 면모를 보여준다. 서지적으로는 필사 연대를 추정할 만한 단서를 얻기 어려우나, 역대왕조에 대한 기록에서 이 책이 일러도 19세기 초기 이후에 필사되었다고 짐작할 수 있다. 이 책에 쓰인 언어를 분석해 본다면 『만보전서언해』는 19세기 후기에 필사된 것으로 판단된다. 본 논문에서는 자료가 보여주는 표기상의 특징, 형태․어휘상의 특징 등을 살펴보았다. 본고는 된소리를 ‘ㅅ’계 합용병서로 표기한 경향이 나타나고 ‘․’와 ‘ㅏ’가 사실상 구분되지 않고 쓰였던 점, 19세기 후기의 다른 문헌에 처음 문증되는 어휘들이 이 책에서 확인된다는 점을 들어 이 책이 19세기 후기에 필사된 것으로 판단하였다.
Abstract
This paper aims to introduce 『Manbojeonseo Eonhae』 to the society of Korean linguistics and also to provide its presumed chronology through a bibliographical and linguistics analysis of this manuscript. The name of 『Manbojeonseo』 has two different meaning. That is, it indicates the book itself and also shows all of an all-purpose dictionary similar to an encyclopedia in the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Ching Dynasty. 『Manbojeonseo Eonhae』 is based on the original <Manbojeonseo> of the Ming and the Ching, but it is a transcription which is renewedly comprised of and includes the selected contents from the original work. 『Manbojeonseo Eonhae』 composed of 17 books shows various knowledge and abundant notes such as the encyclopedia. In fact, it could be judged that this book would be transcribed from the records of the past dynasties after at least the early nineteenth century even though it has been difficult to find any clue in order to presume the age of the manuscript in bibliographical. It is even more clear with the analyzed language written in this book. Based on both orthographic, morphological and lexical accounts, this study draws the conclusion that 『Manbojeonseo Eonhae』 was written in the late of nineteenth century.
