The American 8th Army show, which resulted from US troops stationed in S. Korea after Korean War, left a unique footprint in Korean pop music history. Even though the audience of these shows was limited to US and UN troops, the impact of these shows was enormous. Above all, many entertainment companies were founded to provide Korean singers and entertainers for the shows, providing them with the opportunities to gain experience and training in American pop music. They were exposed to various genres of American music from old pop to rock and roll, the newest musical trend at that time. However, the most popular repertoire was standard pop. This trend provided Korean musicians with a new direction towards which their music flowed. The American 8th Army show resulted in the opportunity for Korean musicians to introduce American pop music and its culture to mainstream society by producing newly styled songs.
