Abstract

It is certainly important that the relationship between the corporate governance and workplace employment relations has been a growing interest. Several studies suggest that the variation of corporate governance change employment relations in country level analysis. On the other hand the variation within country of corporate governance were not enough attention. Therefore the purpose of this paper are as follows. The relationship between corporate governance and workplace employment relations is reviewed drawing on the recent analysis and policy developments. And this paper considers researches on this topic with stakeholder perspective and shareholder perspective. Then recommendations on the relationship between corporate governance and workplace employment relations in South Korea are outlined, and it is suggested that these provide several opportunities for more advanced analysis in this area. The implication of this study is summarized as follows. First, firm level researches are required on the basis of implications in country level analysis to find the variation within country of the corporate governance and workplace employment relations. Second, characteristics of institution and industrial property of South Korea should be considered in abstracting strategy and environment factors as control variables. Third, this paper presents the integrative approach of two perspectives on corporate governance and employment relations. For executing the integrative research on the orientation of corporate governance, the empirical model and measurement should be more specified by considering recent studies using various proxy variables on stakeholder perspective and shareholder perspective. In conclusion this study suggest that there is a need to implement firm-level empirical analyses for searching the width and depth of the change in corporate governance orientation and employment relations.
