Abstract

Juan Madrid, one of Spain’s leading authors of ‘Novela Negra’, was a journalist who writes his novels to convey the truth hidden in Spanish society to readers by borrowing the form of mystery novel. Juan Madrid, which has been active to this day, has never overlooked the social problems of Spain’s contemporary society in the 21st century, which has entered the ranks of advanced countries. Inspired by the stories Forgione told, he created his novel, Wet men are not afraid of the rain, by Francesco Forgione, the author of Mafia Export, who introduced “ndrangheta” to the world. In this work, Juan Madrid explains the background and process of how the ‘ndrangheta’ mafia took root in Spain. In addition to the mafia’s drug trafficking, he is raising an alarm in Spanish society by exposing the reality where the mafia is blocking social development by using the political and economic ties of Spanish society, the legacy of an unresolved dictatorship, and the absence of a social system. Juan Madrid also frequently mentions the reality of the Spanish publishing community in the work, which is a part of Juan Madrid’s vocation as a journalist and author. Wet men are not afraid of the rain, which reflects the problems of contemporary Spanish society, can be said to be Juan Madrid’s “A report on the dark side of Spanish contemporary society,” which revealed the truth hidden in society.
