본 연구는 회원들의 연구진실성 인식 제고를 위해 기획된 연구윤리에 대한 시리즈 중 첫 번째 주제인 연구진실성과 연구부정행위에 대해 논의하였다. 모든 연구자는 연구수행의 전 과정에서 연구진실성을 준수할 책무가 있다. 그렇지만 연구자 중에는 연구진실성에 대한 무관심, 무지, 게으름 또는 고의로 연구진실성을 위반하는 경우가 끊이지 않고 있다. 한 연구자의 연구부정행위는 그러한 연구부정행위를 한 개인만이 아니라 그가 속한 연구 공동체 더 나아가 국가의 신뢰를 실추시키고 경쟁력을 약화시킨다. 그러므로 연구자의 연구진실성에 대한 인식 제고와 실천 능력의 함양은 매우 중요하다. 이러한 문제 인식을 가지고 본 연구에서는 다음과 같은 내용에 초점을 두었다. 첫째, 연구진실성의 의미와 중요성 그리고 지향하는 대표적인 가치가 무엇인지를 살펴보았다. 둘째, 연구자가 연구 수행 과정에서 직면할 수 있는 바람직한 연구수행과 바람직하지 않은 연구수행이란 구체적으로 무엇이며 어떤 특성이 있는지를 분석하였다. 셋째, 연구자나 연구 공동체가 연구진실성을 올바르게 인식하기 위해 필요한 자세를 제시하였다.
Abstract
This study deals with research integrity and research misconduct and is the first topic in a series on research ethics designed to raise awareness of research integrity for members of academic society. All researchers have a responsibility to comply with research integrity throughout the entire process of conducting research. There have been, however, ceaseless cases of indifference, ignorance, laziness, or intentionally violating the research integrity protocols. A researcher's misconduct damages not only the reputation of the individual who committed such research misconduct, but also the research community to which he belongs. Furthermore, this undermines the trust of the country and weakens its competitiveness. Therefore, it is paramount to raise the awareness research integrity and to cultivate its practice. Recognizing this point, this study is focused on the following. First, it examines the meaning and importance of research integrity. Second, it analyzes the specific characteristics of desirable and undesirable research performance that researchers may face in the process of conducting research. Third, the study suggests the correct posture necessary for researchers or the research community to correctly recognize research integrity.
