행실도 열녀편 도상 변화의 문화적 의미 - <오륜행실도>에 나타난 변화 양상을 중심으로

In this study, I focussed on the transition and cultural meaning of the images in Oryunhaengsildo(五倫行實圖), especially attended to the part of virtuous women(烈女). The purpose of this paper is to investigate the virtuous women's images in Oryunhaengsildo as the cultural indication that designates the changes of women's status in late Chosun Dynasty. For this purpose, I presented three aspects of changes on the images of Oryunhaengsildo, as the realistic figures of characters, the elaborate depictions of background, and the plentiful depictions of Chosun culture and institute. These aspects, I think, had been brought about the following effects as the disappearance of pain, the beatification of chastity, and the generalization of women's death for chastity. The changes on the images of Oryunhaengsildo which had been published in late Chosun Dynasty stressed when and how women to die. In this period, women who had been forced to be the virtuous women must have considered not only death but also well-timed death for the chastity. Endowed the images with aesthetical value, the well-timed death had been the periodical feature on the history of Haengsildo(行實圖).
